Most gallantry awards for Red belt, J&K service

Two BSF personnel killed during a UN peacekeeping mission in Congo. UP Police DG Prashant Kumar, known as the "encounter specialist", honored for gallantry on Republic Day eve along with 1,132 other personnel. Medals announced include 2 President's Medal for Gallantry, 275 medals for gallantry, 102 President's Medal for Distinguished Service, and 753 Medal for Meritorious Service.

HC: Treat arrest, even without exchange of fire, as encounter

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that apprehending armed militants qualifies as an "encounter" for reservation benefits for police personnel's children.
