Reprieve for 8 Navy vets on death row in Qatar

The eight Indian Navy veterans who were facing the death penalty in Qatar have had their sentences commuted to an unspecified number of years in prison by a higher court. The Indian government will continue to provide legal and consular assistance to the accused and may use a 2015 agreement with Qatar for the transfer of sentenced persons. The veterans were held on charges of passing sensitive information to Israel about a Qatari submarine project.
