In quota stir, anger over political neglect unites Marathas despite economic divide

The Maratha community in Maharashtra is demanding reservation and feeling betrayed by the political leadership. The community has a significant presence in politics and the economy, but there is a large economic divide within the community. Many Marathas are dependent on agriculture, which has shrunk over the years, leading to a deteriorating economic situation. The community blames the political leadership for not addressing their upliftment. The community is also angry at politicians for not giving back to the community and many villages have banned the entry of political leaders.
