Court acquits Cong MLA Mevani, 6 others in 2016 rioting case

A metropolitan court on Tuesday acquitted Congress MLA and Dalit activist Jignesh Mevani and six others of the criminal case lodged against them for staging a demonstration and blocking traffic on Ashram Road while raising the demand for improvement in the service conditions of sanitation workers in 2016. Mevani and his associates were agitating at the Income Tax Circle in the city in 2016, demanding regularization of the jobs of sanitation workers.
