Festivals and polls ahead, curbs on sugar exports likely to stay

The Indian government is expected to extend the restriction on sugar exports to ensure sufficient supply and stable prices during the festival season and the 2024 election year. The minimum export price of basmati rice will also remain unchanged to ensure enough availability for domestic consumption, disappointing growers and exporters who were seeking a reduction.
