India suffered a 21-run loss in the first T20I at the hands of New Zealand at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. India captain Hardik Pandya said they were left "surprised" by the grip and turn the pitch offered but admitted the team paid the price for allowing New Zealand to walk away with too many runs.
